Culture

We are a new church in a new building.

But we're also an old church in an old building. We were once three churches but God brought us together to be one church (B&A is short for Bishopston and St Andrews). We then did a building exchange with Horfield Baptist Church, so we got ourselves a new building, which is also an old one! We have learned to be obedient to God's promptings. That's a key part of our culture.

We want everyone to be welcome at B&A.

We love being a church of different languages and nationalities. We love being a church of different ages, stages and sizes. We are a safe haven for those battered by the storms of life and we are growing in our understanding of neuro-divergence.

We believe in the call to be radically inclusive and radically holy. If you want to understand more about what that means, please watch this video of David Bennett speaking at B&A.

We want every to be safe at B&A

We are an Angican church. Each year we elect people to the Parish Church Council (PCC). They're our trustees. They are responsible for working with the staff team to steward what God is doing at B&A.

In 2024 the PCC did some work on what it means for our culture to be 'safe'. In recent years there have been some high profile cases of abuses of power in the church. We believe that everyone should be equipped to identify behaviour that's unhealthy.

If you spot anything unhealthy, please talk to one of our PCC. You can see them here:

We believe that a safe culture has to be backed up by good policies and procedures around the care of the most vulnerable in our church. You can read our Safeguarding Policy here. If you've got any concerns or questions, please get in touch here.
